How to Ensure Quality When Hiring PEB Companies in India

Not every workshop that welds steel is a PEB company. As demand for pre-engineered buildings grows, some PEB companies in India market standard fabrication as “PEB” without engineering, traceability, or NDT. Quality control is how you separate a 30-year asset from an expensive maintenance problem.

Steel Procurement and Mill Test Certificates

Insist on primary steel with MTCs showing grade and yield strength (commonly 345 MPa or project-specified). Heat numbers on members should match certificates. Substandard or untraceable material is unacceptable for insured industrial assets.

Welding Procedure and NDT

Built-up members should use qualified WPS/PQR documentation. Automated submerged arc welding improves consistency on long seams. For critical joints, ask about ultrasonic or radiographic testing—especially on crane bracket connections and heavy haunches.

Dimensional Accuracy — CNC Cutting and Drilling

A PEB structure is assembled with bolts. Misaligned holes cause prying, oversized holes, or site reaming—which weakens connections. CNC plasma cutting and drilling are baseline requirements for serious PEB manufacturers.

Surface Preparation and Coating

Shot blasting to SA 2.5 removes mill scale. Paint systems must match environment—industrial interior, coastal exterior, or chemical C4/C5. Record dry film thickness (DFT) checks. Poor paint is the leading cause of premature corrosion on PEB sheds.

Factory Inspection Test Plan (ITP)

Request an ITP covering incoming steel, cutting, welding, dimensional check, blasting, painting, and dispatch packaging. Hold points allow your QC team or third-party inspector to witness critical stages.

Erection Quality

Site QC includes anchor bolt projection check, column plumb, torque on high-strength bolts, and cladding seal integrity. Erection should follow a method statement with trained supervisors—not unmanaged labour pools.

Documentation Handover

At completion, you should receive as-built drawings, bolt torque records, MTC compilation, and warranty terms on workmanship and coatings. This package supports factory audits, insurance, and resale due diligence.
